The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking a Laboratory Animal Technician to join the husbandry team within Veterinary Resources. The role coordinates day-to-day activities in a laboratory animal facility, acting as a lead worker to ensure animal care adheres to federal regulations and supports research needs.

Responsibilities include prioritizing work, training staff, monitoring animal health, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: One year in a laboratory animal facility supporting a research project similar to the type being recruited for.
• Other: Additional related experience and formal education may substitute for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits equivalent to one year of experience.

Responsabilités

• Determines work priorities, plans, and schedules; assigns and reviews work; conducts hands-on training of animal care personnel.
• Observes, identifies, and reports animal health related problems.
• Coordinates animal care activities with other staff.
• Assists with the evaluation, maintenance, and monitoring of the health of laboratory animals.
• Provides husbandry support including feeding and watering, cleaning cages, preparing special diets, and maintaining environment conditions.
• Handles animal carcasses, tissues, and wastes following policies and procedures.
• Maintains husbandry records pertaining to animal care and census.
