Job Description

Leads and guides lab technologists, lab assistants, and other laboratory staff. Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures relevant to the particular lab. Prepares and tests specimens for examination and reports results. Performs all Quality Control procedures. Reviews, evaluates, and documents all corrective actions.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Leads and guides lab technologists, lab assistants, and other laboratory staff. Acts as a resource when questions arise. Handles more difficult tests and procedures.
  2. Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures relevant to the particular lab. Prepares and tests specimens for examination and reports results.
  3. Performs all Quality Control procedures, including data accumulation and recording. Reviews, evaluates, and documents all corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  4. Performs routine and preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  5. Troubleshoots basic instrumentation, reagents, technical problems, and methodologies.
  6. Maintains sufficient supplies at each workstation through the inventory control system.
  7. Assists in in-service training programs and all bench training in the laboratory.
  8. Uses Infection Control practices and procedures.
  9. Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science, or a related field, required.
  • Licensed by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or as appropriate to the area of assignment), required.
  • Minimum of six (6) years relevant clinical experience, required.
