Job summary

UAB Medicine’s ambulatory labs are seeking a dedicated lab technician to support specimen processing, reporting, and storage in a team-driven environment across multiple clinics.

Responsibilities include preparing, distributing, cataloging, and storing specimens; ensuring identification and quality controls; and providing administrative support using HIS/LIS systems. Open to candidates with a high school diploma and 1 year of experience.

Job Highlights

The laboratories at UAB Medicine's academic ambulatory clinics support outpatient care across multiple primary care, specialty care, and urgent care locations. In these clinic-based labs, your responsibilities will include specimen processing, chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, point-of-care testing, and outpatient phlebotomy services in a team-based, collaborative environment across a wide range of clinical specialties. Your contributions will help keep clinic workflows efficient and ensure providers have timely diagnostic results to guide their care plan. This role offers a consistent weekday schedule and the chance to make a meaningful impact across UAB Medicine's ambulatory network.

Job Description

To perform all duties related to the preparation, distribution, cataloging, and storage of lab specimens for testing. To adhere to departmental specimen identification policies and quality controls. To utilize lab and hospital information systems and provide general administrative support to the laboratory staff in support of laboratory operations, such as filing, record maintenance, responding to client calls, and mail delivery. To serve as a technical resource to others. To orient new employees as needed.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience required.
