Job summary

The Lead Laboratory Assistant - Outpatient Phlebotomist at Cayuga Health System in Ithaca, NY performs adult and pediatric phlebotomy, centrifuging, aliquoting and preparing specimens for transport. You will register patients, verify demographics and insurance, and use Meditech, Accureg and Cayuga Connect to support timely, accurate lab work.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 2 years of phlebotomy experience, and preferably a vocational phlebotomy certification.

Lead Laboratory Assistant - Outpatient Phlebotomist - Full-Time

A Lead Lab Assistant - Outpatient Phlebotomist preforms adult and pediatric Phlebotomy, in addition to daily tasks including, centrifuging, aliquoting and stabilizing patient specimens for transport via courier to the main campus lab or via the pneumatic tube system. Accurately register patients, insurance verification and verifying all patient demographics.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Performs proper venipuncture and post care of phlebotomy site along with labeling each specimen with 2 forms of ID with zero labeling errors.
• Perform registration and requisitioning and proper use of Meditech, Accureg and Cayuga connect. Participates in quality assurance and maintains inter and intra departmental work flow.
• Helps minimize butterfly usage throughout the PSC"s, maintains professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Maintains adequate inventory and all checklists and is able to trouble shoot when temperatures are out of range and assist with daily, weekly and monthly checklist completion.
• Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, HIPPAA standards and safety guidelines.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years working phlebotomy experience
• Vocational phlebotomy (or related) course/program and certification strongly preferred.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred
• Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
• Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.

Physical Requirements:

• May require light lifting (up to 10 Lbs.) and carrying supplies.
• Repetitive use of hands (e.g. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary.

Location and Travel Requirements:

• Onsite at Cayuga Park Outpatient Lab Service Center: 401 Cayuga Park Ln Suite 123, Ithaca, NY 14850
• Shift: Full-Time, Days. Anticipated schedule is Monday-Friday from 7am-3pm BUT hours and location may vary. Rotating weekends.

Pay Range Disclosure:

• $19.79 + $2.00(lead pay) - $26.04 + $2.00(lead pay)
