Position Summary:

The primary task of a Lead Lab Assistant is to provide supervision, instruction, and support to both Accessioners and other departments to help improve efficiency, quality, and standardization. These departments include, but are not limited to: IT, Quality and Safety, Sale and Marketing, as well as the technical laboratory departments on and offsite. The Lead Lab Assistant will assist the supervisory staff in communicating with the department, training new employees, reviewing, and assigning quality feedback tickets, completing advanced projects, and maintaining employee data and bench schedules. This individual will be an expert in accessioning, be familiar with the job functions of on and offsite personnel and work collaboratively with them. The ideal candidate must show initiative, competence with time management and workflow, and compliance with company policies and procedures.

Position Schedule:M-F 11am - 7:30pm, with flexibility to start earlier at 10am if desired

Essential Duties:

  • Communicate departmental changes, updates, and staff expectations
  • Model correct processes for intaking and accessioning pathological materials
  • Review errors and educate Accessioning staff on appropriate solutions
  • Communicate error feedback to staff using the CellNetix ticket system
  • Maintain and communicate Accessioning metrics data to staff and Accessioning leadership
  • Train current and incoming Accessioning staff and assist in cross-training individuals from numerous departments as needed
  • Develop and update training programs and materials
  • Work closely with Accessioning leadership staff/supervisors/managers to develop up-to-date processes and procedures
  • Assist supervisor/manager in performing various assigned responsibilities (i.e. planning, compliance, troubleshooting, training, making workflow recommendations, etc.) completely, accurately and within established timeframes
  • Ability to perform laboratory work according to medical standards
  • Assign bench rotations and complete all Accessioning job duties as needed
  • Supports problem resolution tasks as needed
Qualifications

  • Ability to provide constructive and effective feedback to other lab assistants regarding the use of standard practices.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum High school graduate.
  • Preferred Associate’s or bachelor's degree with emphasis in biology/chemistry/anatomy
  • Basic computer program & application skills
  • Customer service experience
  • 1-2 years experience in a laboratory setting
  • Proficient in all Accessioning benches and duties

Physical Requirements:

  • Pass a standardized color-blind test
  • Extended time on feet
  • Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Standing, bending, stooping
