Job summary

Supreme Court of Virginia in Richmond seeks a full-time Staff Attorney to serve as Program Director for the Judicial Performance Evaluation Program, evaluating Virginia’s justices and judges. The position offers a competitive benefits package and requires writing samples.

The most competitive candidates will be licensed in Virginia, possess strong analytical/written/oral skills, and be able to engage with the bench, bar, and legislature while traveling occasionally.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Virginia and in good standing.
• Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
• Sound working knowledge of Virginia court operations and the legal system.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with the bench, bar, and legislature.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Judicial Performance Evaluation (JPE) Program, including working with the JPE Advisory Committee and its subcommittees.
• Supervise staff in the implementation of the Supreme Court’s Judicial Disqualification Policy, including designation/recall of judges.
• Assist the Assistant Executive Secretary and Counsel in responding to various legal issues affecting OES and the judicial branch.
• Assist other OES departments on special assignments as needed.
