Job Summary:

We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!

This role sits in the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) organization within Technology & Digital for Disney Experiences. It works closely with DVC Business along with Sales & Marketing and Member Services Technology groups across the company.

The Lead Software Engineer is expected to play a critical role in:

  • Design and implementation of custom and SaaS vendor product integration, cloud integration, and application integration
  • Owning and leading large development programs and teams from Ideation through implementation, where a project is comprised of many components.
  • Ability to communicate to both technical and business users and the ability to gracefully handle passionate conversations.
  • Overseeing, influencing and mentoring collaborative project teams, inclusive of on-shore and off-shore development resources, key clients, and other technical groups in the organization
  • Leading team members in the delivery of technology solutions which meet business delivery expectations, maintain portfolio currency, and integrate engineering best practices.
  • Perform code reviews on regular basis and setup best practices.
  • Providing technical direction and evaluating the quality of deliverables.
  • Working closely with technical and non-technical leaders to strategize on delivery approach and dependency management.
  • Participating in the design process of new features and enhancements to the software platform.
  • Working independently and delivering on agreed upon timelines.
  • Strong practice of agile development in a collaborative, dynamic team environment.
  • Highly flexible to quickly changing business needs and adoption of new technologies
  • Ability to create and follow programming and style guidelines to maintain high-quality, secure code
  • Ability to create and maintain documentation, procedures, and work instructions for development or operations team.
  • Have the Creativity to be able to dynamically evaluate business needs and make suggestions to meet those needs

What You’ll Do:

  • Own the analysis, design, program, debugging, and modifications of software improvements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet-related computer programs
  • Lead projects that may be used in commercial and end-user applications or focus on software and tools supporting infrastructure and technology platforms
  • Work typically involves large or highly sophisticated software programs and systems
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of current programming language and technologies, with strong skills in writing code and completing programming tasks
  • May perform or lead testing and debugging of applications, identifying innovative solutions
  • Conceive, design, develop, test, and implement software components, fixes, improvements, and/or new systems and applications
  • Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications
  • Help engage around the estimation and planning of highly sophisticated scalable projects and their budget allocations
  • You will be expected to stay up to date with emerging technologies so you can make informed recommendations
  • Understand and take ownership of security and compliance concerns within the applications, such as encryption at rest and in transit, authentication and authorization, PII/PCI data usage, secure coding best practices, multiple environments, etc.
  • Apply a methodical approach to problem solving, based on logical analysis and an understanding of the circumstances of the problem (what changed before the problem occurred, what scenarios do not have the problem, brainstorming what could be contributing to the problem, etc.)
  • Debug application code, detect “code smells,” and embrace refactoring.
  • Proactively identify areas that can cause problems down the road, and present a strategy for handling them.
  • Lead and participate in Technical planning, such as Dependency analysis, integration planning, and release planning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of related SWE work experience
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment

  • Must have Java expert level skills.
  • Expert-level knowledge of microservices, RESTful Web Services or APIs.
  • Expert-level knowledge of object-oriented programming with an understanding of design principles
  • Progressively related experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components and major SaaS solutions
  • Advanced experience in working with databases, including SQL, relational database design, transactionality, indexes, etc.
  • Must have experience with event driven architecture, including technologies such as Pub-Sub, Kafka, and similar solutions
  • Strong knowledge of unit testing, behavioral testing and continuous integration
  • Monitoring tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, and Grafana
  • Software Performance Optimization (memory, CPU, scaling, etc...)
  • desire to further develop technical expertise in data engineering tools, methodologies, and emerging technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Architecting cloud-based solutions using managed and serverless technologies as appropriate such as Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, Google GKE, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions.
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (Angular and Node.js)
  • Experience in Timeshare industry is a plus
  • Database Design Experience including both relational and NoSQL such as MongoDB
  • Experience with QA and software analytic tools is a plus

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
