Job summary

Techead is seeking a Lead Java Developer for a Richmond, VA-based client engagement. The role is a 12-month contract with remote work and occasional onsite meetings in the Richmond area.

The ideal candidate will lead a team to design, develop, and deliver complex software components supporting disposition workflows, using Java, microservices, and cloud technologies. Strong leadership, architecture, and SDLC expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• 3+ years of experience leading development teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Java technologies and related frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of software design patterns and SDLC methodologies.
• Strong SQL and database design skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Experience mentoring junior/mid-level developers.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design, development, and delivery of the modernization project.
• Provide hands-on Java, database, and microservices expertise.
• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level developers.
• Ensure code quality, security, and adherence to SDLC and architectural standards.
• Collaborate with product owners, testers, architects, and project managers to meet timelines.
• Drive technical reviews and resolve production and integration challenges.
• Contribute to project estimation and planning with technical insights.
• Design robust, scalable software components supporting disposition processes.
• Advocate DevOps practices: CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code.
• Monitor performance, reliability, and security, applying cybersecurity best practices.
• Document designs and architecture decisions for maintainability.
