Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience focusing on backend systems.
• Expert-level knowledge of Java (11+) and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security).
• Deep understanding of Microservices architecture, REST APIs, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Solid experience with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cloud Spanner).
• Proven hands-on experience architectural design and deployment within GCP.
• Proficiency with core GCP services including messaging (Pub/Sub) and operations (Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring).

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Java Backend Developer to join our engineering team onsite in Columbus, OH. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of high-performance, scalable backend services. A strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a absolute must-have, as you will be responsible for architecting and migrating cloud-native applications. You will balance hands-on coding with technical leadership, guiding a team of engineers to deliver robust software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Lead the design and architectural direction of secure, scalable, and resilient Java backend microservices.
• Drive GCP cloud strategy, ensuring optimal utilization of cloud-native services, cost efficiency, and high availability.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews, technical pair programming, and architectural workshops.
• Write clean, maintainable, and high-quality code using Java (version 11/17+) and the Spring Boot framework.
• Design and develop RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures to support complex business logic.
• Optimize application performance, troubleshooting latency, scalability, and memory issues.
• Deploy and manage applications within GCP environments using containers and orchestration tools.
• Implement robust CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Security teams to enforce cloud security best practices and data encryption standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Core Backend & Java

• 8+ years of professional software development experience focusing on backend systems.
• Expert-level knowledge of Java (Java 11 or higher preferred) and the Spring Ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security).
• Deep understanding of Microservices architecture, REST APIs, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Solid experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cloud Spanner).
• Proven hands‑on experience architectural design and deployment within GCP.
• Proficiency with core GCP services, including:
• Messaging: Lookups/Pub‑Sub for event‑driven systems.
• Operations: Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring (Stackdriver).

DevOps & Tools

• Strong containerization skills using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Google Cloud Build).
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.

Location & Soft Skills

• Must be able to work 100% onsite at our office in Columbus, OH.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Data Engineer.
• Experience migrating legacy on‑premises monolithic applications to GCP microservices.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
