Job summary

Washington State Department of Agriculture is recruiting a full-time Pest Biologist 2 in Yakima, WA. The role supervises eradication efforts for Japanese beetle, coordinates with contractors, and ensures environmental and regulatory compliance.

Minimum qualifications include a biology-related degree, multiple years of pest control experience, and supervisory experience; a Public Applicator Pesticide license and driver's license are required. Preference for bilingual English/Spanish candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or closely related field.
• Four years of experience in detection, survey, control, or eradication of pests or invasive species.
• One year of supervisory experience.
• Two years of experience as Pest Biologist 1.
• Valid driver's license and Public Applicator Pesticide license.

Responsibilities

• Assist eradication planning and coordinate with field staff and contractors.
• Conduct pest surveillance, data collection, and reporting for Japanese beetle eradication.
• Supervise temporary staff and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Communicate with stakeholders and coordinate with agencies on eradication activities.
• Develop training materials and update position descriptions for eradication roles.
