Job summary

The University of Minnesota’s Department of Horticultural Science seeks a researcher to coordinate laboratory and field studies on insecticide compatibility with the winsome fly, a parasitoid of the Japanese beetle. The role is 100% full-time, grant-funded, starting early 2027 through December 2028, in-person, and not eligible for certain sponsorships.

Major duties include laboratory rearing, field trials, data analysis, and dissemination of results to scientists and practitioners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in entomology, biology, horticulture, or a closely related field plus at least two years of relevant experience or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Coordinate collection, maintenance, and rearing of Japanese beetles and winsome flies.
• Implement insecticide bioassays evaluating host mortality and parasitoid development.
• Maintain overwintering cohorts and document pupariation, survival, and emergence.
• Coordinate seasonal insect collections and monitor phenology; establish field trials.
