• Five or more years of direct experience conducting pre-employment background investigations for law enforcement or government agencies.
• College degree in Journalism, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Pre-Law, Paralegal, or related field.
• Strong interviewing skills for remote and in-person interviews.
• Strong analytical and writing skills with the ability to interpret findings and deliver clear reports.
• Ability to pass a Security Clearance to obtain a PERC or already possess one.
• Proficiency in Google Docs, Excel, and investigative tools.
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
• Ability to commit to 2 completed cases per week, up to 5 per week depending on availability.

KENTECH Consulting Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Background Investigator to conduct impartial, fact-based pre-employment investigations for municipal government agencies. This role requires strong investigative skills, excellent research abilities, and a commitment to maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

As a remote investigator, you will analyze applications, conduct interviews, research public records, and compile detailed reports. If you have a background in journalism, criminal investigations, or investigative reporting, this is an excellent opportunity to apply your skills in a fast-paced and high-impact environment.

This role has a few hard requirements. Please don't apply unless you can meet all of them:

• Case volume: you can commit to at least 2 completed cases per week, and up to 5 per week if you're available full-time. If you can only take on occasional or sporadic work, this isn't the right fit.
• Turnaround: completed investigations and reports are submitted within 48 hours of assignment.
• Systems: you're comfortable navigating multiple online portals, public records databases, and investigative tools to research and verify information independently.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications and Experience

• College degree in Journalism, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Pre-Law, Paralegal, or a related field.
• Five or more years of direct experience conducting pre-employment background investigations for law enforcement or government agencies required. General criminal investigation, journalism, or reporting experience alone does not qualify.
• Strong interviewing skills for both remote and in-person interviews.
• Strong analytical and writing skills with the ability to interpret findings and deliver clear reports.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
• Proficiency in Google Docs, Excel, and investigative tools or software.
• Comfortable navigating multiple online portals and public-records systems to research and verify information independently.
• Ability to pass a Security Clearance to obtain a Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) or already possess one.
• Ability to commit to a minimum of 2 completed cases per week, up to 5 per week depending on availability.
• Ability to submit completed investigations and reports within 48 hours of assignment.
