Job summary

Penn State University seeks a Lead Intramural Official to oversee officiating, enforce rules, and ensure participant safety while modeling professionalism and sound judgment during intramural events.

The role leads officiating staff, participates in training and mentoring, manages game flow, resolves conflicts, and communicates with participants and recreation staff. The position requires current employment in Competitive Sports and availability for at least two shifts per week.

Qualifications

• Must be a current employee for Competitive Sports with a minimum of one semester of employment.
• Knowledge of rules and mechanics and experience officiating for two or more major sports within Intramural Sports at Penn State.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Availability to work a minimum of two shifts per week. More is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Officiate intramural sports contests according to established rules and policies.
• Serve as the lead official during assigned games and special events.
• Assist with training, mentoring, and evaluating new officials.
• Ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants.
• Manage game flow, resolve conflicts, and address participant concerns professionally.
• Interpret and enforce intramural sports rules consistently and fairly.
• Complete incident and injury reports when necessary.
• Assist supervisors with game setup, equipment management, and facility inspections.
• Communicate effectively with participants, team captains, and recreation staff.
• Support the mission and goals of the competitive sports program.
