Job summary

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 3–7 years in manufacturing, strong blueprint reading skills, and experience with inspection techniques. Nadcap/AS9100 familiarity is a plus and leadership capabilities are needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Experience with shot peening inspection and related processes is preferred.
• Ability to train inspectors and operators on procedures and requirements.
• Experience with NCR/Nadcap audits or similar quality systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform inspection activities to ensure shot peening processes meet customer specs and engineering standards.
• Oversee Almen strip testing, intensity verification, and coverage verification.
• Approve or reject products based on specifications; maintain traceability and records.
• Monitor process parameters and equipment settings; assist with root cause analysis.
• Support internal, customer, and Nadcap audits and drive corrective actions.

National Peening is currently seeking a Lead Quality Inspector to join our Team in Wilmington, NC.

What You Will Do

The Shot Peening Lead Inspector is responsible for leading and performing inspection activities to ensure all shot peening processes and products comply with customer specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements. This role serves as the primary technical resource on the shop floor for inspection-related matters.

General

• Perform and oversee inspection activities including:
  • Almen strip testing and intensity verification
  • Coverage verification
  • Shot peening process validation
• Approve or reject products based on applicable specifications
• Monitor process parameters, including media condition and equipment settings
• Maintain accurate inspection records and ensure full traceability
• Train and support inspectors and operators on requirements and procedures
• Identify, document, and escalation non-conformances
• Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Support internal, customer, and Nadcap audits

What We Want From You

• High School diploma or equivalent is required
• 3-7 years experience in manufacturing environment, surface treatment/ shot peening experience preferred
• 2+ years management/supervisor experience in quality position preferred
• Strong technical knowledge of shot peening processes
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Strong communication and training skills
• Problem-solving and decision-making ability

Certifications (Preferred)

• Working knowledge of SAE, AMS, and customer specifications
• Familiarity with Nadcap and AS9100 standards
• Shop floor environment with exposure to machinery and production conditions, some office work
