Job description

General Description

The Lead Toddler Teacher oversees the education of children in their classroom, developing an environment and curriculum that support optimal development. The Lead Toddler Teacher collaborates with the Center Director to plan and implement programs and supervises classroom staff. They may assume responsibility for the center in the absence of the Center Director.

Programmatic Responsibilities
  1. Develop a classroom environment supporting social/emotional development.
  2. Maintain a stimulating, nurturing classroom environment in compliance with licensing, accreditation, and agency standards.
  3. Oversee ongoing child assessment using agency-provided tools and support staff in their use.
  4. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum based on assessment data.
  5. Develop and execute individual plans for children based on assessment data and effective teaching strategies.
  6. Create an annual Classroom Action Plan utilizing program evaluation and assessment data; lead efforts to achieve its goals.
  7. Identify developmental concerns, consult with the Center Director and Social Worker, and develop/implement accommodation plans.
  8. Maintain documentation of classroom activities and children's progress in accordance with standards.
  9. Develop and complete an annual professional development plan.
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  1. Serve as team leader and role model for classroom staff.
  2. Plan and facilitate regular curriculum meetings.
  3. Provide ongoing supervision of classroom staff and evaluate performance with the Center Director, supporting staff development.
  4. Assist in orienting and supervising volunteers and interns.
Family Communication/Enrollment Responsibilities
  1. Maintain communication with families through daily contact, reports, and newsletters, documenting all interactions.
  2. Meet with parents/guardians at least quarterly to discuss child development.
  3. Provide initial and quarterly developmental reports to parents/guardians.
  4. Encourage family involvement in planning and classroom activities.
  5. Develop and implement activities linking home and classroom.
  6. Perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • BA in Early Childhood Education or equivalent with 36 ECE credits - Required
  • DEEC Lead Teacher Toddler Certification - Required
  • Two years of experience teaching young children - Preferred
  • Understanding of and commitment to developmentally appropriate practice.
Additional Requirements
  • Commitment to supporting low-income families and at-risk children.
  • Classroom management and supervisory skills.
  • Warm, nurturing personality and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including closing shifts until 6:00 PM.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.
  • This is a full-time, year-round position, 40 hours/week, with an 8.5-hour workday including a half-hour unpaid break. Shift may vary based on program needs.
