About the role:

As a LEU+ Industrial HVAC & Utilities Technical Lead Engineer, you will be the technical steward for systems controlling indoor air quality in manufacturing operations, supporting worker health, comfort, product quality, and safety. Your responsibilities include developing specifications, functional requirements, designs, schematics, selecting components, and supporting engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of industrial HVAC systems. You will create detailed specifications, datasheets, equipment lists, models, asset management protocols, site and factory acceptance criteria, layout drawings, and material requisitions. Leadership qualities are essential as you will oversee projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.

You will report to the LEU+ Engineering Manager and be based in Columbia, SC.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop functional specifications, project procedures, equipment data sheets, system requirements
  2. Specify and evaluate engineering services for designing HVAC and utility equipment
  3. Be a technical specialist for local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems, source-capture hoods, pressure control, make-up air systems, pollution control, dust control, process exhaust, and other mechanical systems to ensure safe and reliable operations
  4. Lead design, specification, and selection of HVAC and utility systems, adhering to applicable codes and standards
  5. Ensure design changes are documented through the change control process
  6. Participate in risk analysis processes like HAZOP and LOPA as HVAC and utility system SME
  7. Provide technical input during the design phase
  8. Develop specifications and material requisitions for equipment and systems
  9. Participate in design and engineering reviews
  10. Perform calculations for equipment sizing, pipe flow, load balancing, and duct velocities

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with other engineering disciplines, ensuring standards compliance, developing equipment qualification procedures, participating in site construction and commissioning, and managing maintenance programs. You will also handle technical queries, work with vendors, deliver accurate documentation, monitor site activities, and engage in other role-related activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Experience in specialty chemical, petrochemical, API pharmaceutical, or nuclear industries
  • Knowledge of particulate and fume separation, glove-box and hood applications, HEPA filtration, dehumidification, and clean room environments
  • Proficiency with ASME, ASHRAE, NFPA standards
  • Experience across full project lifecycle including documentation and design reviews
  • Ability to produce technical reports and explain complex issues
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (less than 20%) for vendor evaluations, site tests, and inspections
  • Team engagement skills
  • US Citizenship and residency or relocation to Columbia, SC
