Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Designer to lead the physical design of high‑voltage substations, delivering complete, constructible packages. You will direct general arrangements, grounding layouts, conduit routing, and equipment placement across projects from concept through startup.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent technical experience.
• 6+ years of experience in substation engineering, power delivery, or electrical design.
• Advanced knowledge of substation physical design—layouts, grounding, conduit routing, equipment placement.
• Strong knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar platforms.
• Experience leading engineering tasks or project scopes.

Responsibilities

• Lead physical design and execution of high-voltage substation projects (new stations, upgrades, expansions).
• Develop and oversee deliverables: general arrangement drawings, elevations, grounding layouts, conduit routing, equipment placement.
• Direct grounding design, bus arrangements, conduit systems for project scopes.
• Coordinate with protection & controls, civil, and structural engineers and vendors.
• Review deliverables for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support project planning and budgeting.
