Intuitive Surgical, Inc. is seeking a Human Factors Manager to lead usability research and guide a multidisciplinary team through design controls and regulatory processes.

You will advocate for patient-first usability, coordinate cross-functional activities, and ensure rigorous usability documentation across global product developments. The role requires deep HF/UX expertise, strong communication, and the ability to travel internationally.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: BS in Human Factors Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science with HCI emphasis, Human Centered Design, or related field. MS strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related team management experience with a Bachelor's degree (in engineering); or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a relevant PhD with 4 years experience; or equivalent experience with human factors/biomedical devices.
• Experience in medical device product development within a design controls process or healthcare setting is required.
• Demonstrated experience in HF (UX) and User Research project management.
• Demonstrated experience of successful execution or direct support of global regulatory submissions.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills in a highly structured environment.
• Experience with digital project collaboration tools (e.g. Mural, Batterii, Smartsheets).

Responsibilities

• Establish and guide usability research strategy across the Human Factors group.
• Forecast planning and budgeting for usability research and testing efforts.
• Mentor HF team members and translate insights into actionable usability requirements.
• Coordinate usability activities across prototypes to formal validation in regulated environments.
• Advocate for clinical caregiver experience in safety and usability across product lines.
• Interact with end-user customers internationally to gather design insights.
• Prepare clear usability documents and present findings to product teams.
• Assist with regulatory submissions and responses.
• Travel internationally up to 20–30% as needed.
