Job summary

Thea Energy seeks a Lead HTS Magnet Systems Engineer to own the full lifecycle of large-scale HTS magnet systems. You will bridge electrical and mechanical teams, guiding design trades, cable architectures, manufacturing, QA testing, and integration into the fusion device.

Based in Kearny, NJ, you will lead multi-year hardware programs, drive risk mitigation, and manage vendor relationships while advancing cryogenic and quench protection capabilities for 10T+ systems.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of superconducting magnet experience.
• Experience with 10T+ HTS or LTS Cable-in-Conduit Conductors (CICC) for fusion.
• Led megaproject lifecycles with budgets of $10M–$50M.
• Start-up experience in fast-growing environments.
• Strong knowledge of cryogenic systems and quench protection.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Program Ownership: lead system design reviews, subsystem qualification, site commissioning, and risk mitigation across multi-year projects.
• Cabled HTS Design: specify and optimize high-current cabled HTS conductors, managing thermal stresses and quench propagation.
• Large-scale manufacturing: specify and review designs in the 1–10 m length range and 10–100 Tonne range.
• Electro-Mechanical Integration: direct coupling between power leads, quench detection, cryogenic interfaces, and mechanical supports.
• Vendor & Lifecycle Management: oversee HTS tape/cable vendors, facilities, and integration test platforms.
