Job summary

Syngenta Seeds is seeking a Lead, HSE Territory to support NA Seeds Production and Supply sites. You will lead health, safety, and environmental programs, drive regulatory compliance and risk reduction across North America operations.

Responsibilities include building HSE culture, conducting audits, reporting metrics, leading investigations and enforcement actions, and advising leaders on improvements. The role requires strong collaboration across functions and up to 35% travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or environmental issues (preferred)
  • Experience with HSE auditing/management (minimum 3 years)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and how they apply to agri-business
  • Ability to interpret legislation for agribusiness contexts
  • Ability to organize and conduct site HSE audits and risk analyses
  • Strong communication and influence across stakeholders

  • Oversee HSE training programs and maintain a training matrix.
  • Advise leaders on compliance status and improvements needed.
  • Contribute to monthly HSE metrics and reporting.
  • Lead or participate in investigations and implement corrective actions.

We are currently seeking a Lead, HSE Territory for our NA Seeds Production and Supply team supporting sites and field operations.

The purpose of this role is to provide Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) support and lead HSE coordination at North America production and supply sites. In conjunction with Syngenta corporate NA HSE requirements and global strategy, create and implement HSE and business strategy for the sites to drive improvements in all key areas.

Job Description
  • Build a healthy, sustainable HSE culture through relationship building, communication, teamwork, celebrations and risk mitigation.
  • Build detailed knowledge of site operations, risks and regulatory applicability. Participate in HSE Team meetings, plans and programs to ensure HSE risks are proactively understood and addressed.
  • Conduct HSE risk assessments and self-assessments and report results on a regular basis. Ensure controls are implemented to address risk and non-compliance.
  • As required, manage and collaborate with Syngenta HSE on all enforcement actions, notices of violation, informal settlement agreements, administrative orders and permit agreements.
  • Identify, develop and ensure submission of all required reports to local, state and federal governmental environmental agencies.
  • Ensure sites conformance to published regional or group policies, programs, systems or procedures. Develop needed procedures for all safety, health and environmental programs and systems, adopting Regional or Group procedures where practical. Ensure procedural requirements are understood and followed by site personnel.
  • Oversee site HSE training (regulatory, company requirements and risk based) program. Ensure a comprehensive training matrix and training plan are developed and maintained. Develop and deliver appropriate training content that is aligned with regulatory, company and risk-based requirements.
  • Advise leaders on the compliance status, costs and technical improvements needed to achieve compliance.
  • Contribute to the creation and dissemination of HSE metrics monthly.
  • Lead or participate in appropriately detailed accident/incident investigations and the development of recommendations/actions to prevent a recurrence. Ensure sites respond to and reports all workplace injuries and near misses in a timely fashion to Syngenta management as appropriate and governmental agencies when required.
Qualifications
  • A four-year degree required.HSE job experience considered a plus
  • Course work in safety or environmental issues preferred
  • Knowledge of HSE&S (Health, Safety, Environment & Security) regulations, e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT
  • Ability to interpret legislation as it applies to agri-business
  • Ability to organize and conduct a site HSE audit, conduct risk analysis of HSE issues
  • A minimum of three years of HSE auditing/management experience
  • Ability to communicate and influence/collaborate across different levels of stakeholders and business functions.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify risks.
  • Accurate reporting and data analysis.
  • Drive safety culture in alignment with our ambition.
  • Ability to lead multi-functional teams.
  • Ability to successfully lead change efforts.
  • Up to 35% travel required to other production and supply locations by automobile or commercial aircraft.
