Description

The University of New England (UNE), Maine’s largest private university, is home to two beautiful coastal campuses in Biddeford and Portland. Our Housekeeping team plays a vital role in supporting UNE’s mission by ensuring clean, safe, and welcoming environments across campus.

The Lead Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning and performing routine maintenance in campus buildings, including residence halls, classrooms, and administrative offices. Additionally, the Lead Housekeeper serves as a team leader for a crew of housekeeping staff, coordinating and carrying out specialized housekeeping or maintenance functions as needed.

Pay & Benefits

Pay: $20.50 per hour (equivalent to $42,640 annually).

Total Compensation: Ranges from $57,831 to $71,623 depending on selected medical and dental plans.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a team leader for a crew of housekeeping staff, including training, assigning work, monitoring progress, and handling personnel issues.
  • Ensure standards of quality and quantity are met.
  • Perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, washing, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors.
  • Shampoo carpets, wash windows, walls, chalkboards, trash cans, dust furniture and fixtures.
  • Maintain sanitation and stock bathrooms, change shower curtains, replace light bulbs, and move furniture.
  • Perform routine maintenance of electrical, heating, vents, and fixtures.
  • Coordinate specialized custodial/maintenance functions like floor refinishing and project cleaning.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Communicate and coordinate with university personnel and departments.
  • Foster an inclusive and diverse work culture.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma preferred; 2-3 years of relevant custodial experience, including training in cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and chemical labels.
  • Physical ability to do heavy custodial work and operate cleaning equipment.
  • Basic supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, faculty, and visitors.
