Job summary

Labcorp in Houston, TX is seeking a Lead Histotechnician to join our team. This role processes human tissue and body fluid specimens, prepares histology slides, and performs immunohistochemical tests in a high-volume clinical laboratory.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in Histology (or chemical/biological science with 3+ years in a clinical lab). Preferred candidates have Labcorp experience, ASCP certification, and IHC experience; strong attention to detail and safety

• Experience performing immunohistochemistry and histology procedures

Responsibilities

• Process tissue and body fluids for microscopic examination
• Prepare histology slides and perform immunohistochemical tests
• Section tissue with a microtome and mount on slides
• Maintain equipment and perform QA/QC as required
• Adhere to SOPs, safety protocols, and documentation practices
• Record equipment data and ensure timely reporting of results

Labcorp is seeking a Lead Histotechnician to join our team in Houston, TX

Work Schedule

Monday- Friday 10:00pm -6:30am, Overtime as needed.

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Histology OR Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science with 3 or more years of experience in a clinical lab (within the past 5 years)

Preferred Qualification

• Current or prior Labcorp experience
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications
• 3 years or more Immunohistochemistry experience

Additional Job Standards

• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Immunohistochemistry experience
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
