Job summary

Pasco County is seeking a Special Equipment Operator to perform skilled operation of heavy and complex construction and utility work. Operators use machines such as track and wheel excavators, graders, dump trucks, and other equipment, applying independent judgment on the job.

The role requires a high school diploma, four years of utilities/public works experience with two years operating heavy equipment, and a Florida Class A CDL (X endorsement may be required in some cases).

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent diploma.
• Four (4) years of experience in utilities/solid waste and/or public works maintenance and/or construction, including two (2) years operating heavy/complex equipment.
• Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class "A" is required; X endorsement may be required for some positions.
• Ability to read for comprehension and follow oral/written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and complex construction and maintenance equipment (e.g., excavators, graders, loaders, trucks).
• Maintain and service assigned equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Perform lead work duties with other operators and laborers on public works projects.
• Adhere to safety rules, report incidents, and communicate effectively with team and public.
