Job summary

The City of Seattle's Department of Transportation (SDOT) seeks a Construction and Maintenance Equipment Operator to safely run heavy equipment for curb ramp restoration, sidewalks, and emergency response citywide. You will inspect, operate, and maintain equipment, following safety rules and city policies, while coordinating with diverse teams.

Two years of heavy equipment experience or a qualified course is required; CDL knowledge is a plus, and you may lead crews on various job sites to ensure

Qualifications

• Two years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience or completion of a recognized course with practical operating experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints; understands ADA ramp construction and road panels.
• Comfort with CDL required equipment in snow/ice response (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment; perform pre-trip, post-trip inspections.
• Operate loaders, excavators, backhoes, graders, loaders, and rollers for curb ramp restoration and sidewalk work.
• Follow OSHA/WISHA rules, SDOT policies, and contract language; promote safety.
• Lead crews and coordinate tasks to ensure safety and efficiency; document daily activities.
