Job summary

Desert Research Institute is seeking a Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy construction equipment, semi-trucks, and support vehicles. You will diagnose complex issues, prioritize preventive maintenance, and ensure safety standards are met within a fast-growing team in Gardnerville, NV.

The role requires 5+ years of experience, strong diesel/hydraulic knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a shop setting. CDL is a plus, welding skills are valued.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
  • Experience working on construction equipment and Class 8 trucks.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily shop operations.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus).
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.

  • Ensure repairs are completed safely and meet company standards.
  • Mentor and assist other shop personnel as needed.

Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on:Heavy construction equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, etc.)
  • Semi-trucks and trailers
  • Pickup trucks and service vehicles
  • Small engines and compact equipment
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, diesel engine, and mechanical systems.
  • Schedule and prioritize equipment maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate service records and parts inventory
  • Ensure all repairs are completed safely and meet company standards
  • Mentor and assist other shop personnel as needed
