Job Description And Duties

While working for the Caltrans Division of Equipment and under the direction of a Caltrans Highway Mechanic Supervisor, incumbent works with and has charge of a group of Heavy Equipment Bodyworker/Painter (HEBP) who perform duties of body repair and painting vehicles, heavy equipment, components, and parts. Leads and checks work of staff assigned to the Finals Shop, using Equipment Quality Standards for proper fleet identification and markings. Responsible for estimating job costs, ordering materials, and supplies. Communicates directly with commercial vendors and suppliers. Secures commercial repairs as directed by supervisor. Compiles paint usage records, respirator logs, and assists shop supervisor in the completion of reports and summaries. Uses computer equipment to input and retrieve data. Assumes responsibility for reasonable safeguards, proper use and handling of materials, equipment, and facilities. Must possess a valid class C driver's license. Job assignments may be subject to travel, rotation, geographical transfer, changes of shift, work hours, and workdays.
