Job summary

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is seeking a Unit Chief/ Supervising Hazardous Substances Engineer I to lead the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program in the Greater Los Angeles area. You will oversee environmental investigations and remediation projects, including landfills, ensuring compliance with DTSC orders and CEQA.

Provide technical direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at properties with hazardous materials, including Removal Action Workplans.
Provide guidance on staff’s review of submitted documents, field work oversight, regulatory decision making, and communication with responsible parties and project proponents.
Utilize high-level technical skills to oversee investigation and cleanup of property with hazardous materials including NOA and contaminated groundwater problems.
Oversee sampling and mitigation technique evaluations based on engineering principles to ensure accuracy.
Provide engineering analysis and design guidance for remediation technologies and participate in project meetings and negotiations with responsible parties.
Monitor staff’s review of documents for compliance with standards and CEQA requirements and ensure remediation work meets federal and state standards.
