Job summary

University of New Hampshire Facilities seeks a lead automotive mechanic to perform skilled mechanical work on department vehicles and equipment, mentor Grounds staff, and support campus safety and snow operations. You will coordinate resources, communicate with supervisors, and provide excellent customer service to stakeholders.

The role requires strong diagnostic skills, leadership, and the ability to work 24/7 during winter events.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of automotive mechanic experience.
Knowledge of internal combustion engines and automotive components.
Ability to use computers, tablets, smartphones, and software systems.
Flexibility to work nights and weekends during emergencies.
Must wear appropriate PPE and stay current on safety trainings.

Responsibilities

Operate and repair department vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation.
Forecast vehicle and equipment replacement schedules.
Provide timely customer service and communicate status to customers.
Maintain records of work, materials used, and time expended using work management software.
Participate in winter snow removal planning, scheduling, and on-call rotations.
Mentor turf staff and oversee contractors working on campus as needed.
