Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Health is seeking an experienced accountant to serve as the lead for assigned federal grants and complex programs. You will interpret grant awards, revenues, reporting requirements, and ensure compliance across multiple federal and state audits.

Qualifications include six years of accounting-related experience or a suitable combination with accounting education; CPA is a plus. This temporary role offers competitive pay and advancement opportunities within the Division

Qualifications

  • Six years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field plus 24 semester hours in accounting plus three years in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • A bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting plus three years in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus three years in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics plus two years in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the lead accountant for assigned federal grants and agencies, including large and complex federally funded programs.
  • Interprets grant awards, federal regulations, notices of award, and program requirements to determine appropriate accounting, funding, reporting, and compliance practices.
  • Performs advanced grant accounting and financial reporting activities, including Federal Financial Reports, federal reconciliations, revenue and expenditure analyses, reimbursement requests, and supporting schedules.
  • Provides technical guidance to agency fiscal staff, program management, and fiscal leadership on grant compliance, accounting treatment, federal reporting requirements, and corrective actions.
  • Establishes and maintains grant accounting structures in LaGov, including funds, cost centers, internal orders, grants, and coding structures to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitors grant budgets, expenditures, revenues, cash activity, federal draws, and periods of performance; analyzes audit findings and supports responses to federal and state audits and compliance reviews.
  • Performs monthly and annual financial reconciliations and year-end close activities, including Schedule 8 and Annual Financial Report support, federal revenue recognition, expenditure reviews, and audit documentation.
