This Opportunity

  • WSP is seeking a Lead Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our US Mine Waste team, based in Tucson, AZ, with consideration for Tempe, AZ; Reno, NV; or Elko, NV.
  • You will work on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects, contributing to our growing organization and meeting client objectives.

Your Impact

  • Leading civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, including layout, site selection, geotechnical and hydrologic analyses, and preparation of design drawings and specs.
  • Managing diverse mine waste geotechnical projects, including investigations, testing, data interpretation, and analysis.
  • Reviewing complex geotechnical analyses focusing on soil mechanics, stability, seepage, thermal modeling, and run out analyses for dams and waste rock.
  • Managing projects independently within scope, delivering quality reports on time and budget.
  • Building client relationships and supporting business development.
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams and supporting proposal development.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and staying current with geotechnical techniques.
  • Collaborating on projects with infrastructure authorities at various government levels.
  • Adhering to ethical standards and company policies.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in engineering and geotechnical design.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Experience with tailings management and heap leach design, proficiency in relevant software.
  • Strong knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
  • Client liaison and business development skills.
  • Project management experience, effective communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with technical software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoSlope, HEC-RAS, etc.).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams, with a focus on safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Willingness to work on diverse projects and travel as needed.
