This Opportunity
- WSP is seeking a Lead Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our US Mine Waste team, based in Tucson, AZ, with consideration for Tempe, AZ; Reno, NV; or Elko, NV.
- You will work on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects, contributing to our growing organization and meeting client objectives.
Your Impact
- Leading civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, including layout, site selection, geotechnical and hydrologic analyses, and preparation of design drawings and specs.
- Managing diverse mine waste geotechnical projects, including investigations, testing, data interpretation, and analysis.
- Reviewing complex geotechnical analyses focusing on soil mechanics, stability, seepage, thermal modeling, and run out analyses for dams and waste rock.
- Managing projects independently within scope, delivering quality reports on time and budget.
- Building client relationships and supporting business development.
- Leading multidisciplinary project teams and supporting proposal development.
- Mentoring junior engineers and staying current with geotechnical techniques.
- Collaborating on projects with infrastructure authorities at various government levels.
- Adhering to ethical standards and company policies.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related.
- 7-10 years of relevant experience in engineering and geotechnical design.
- Engineer license required.
- Experience with tailings management and heap leach design, proficiency in relevant software.
- Strong knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
- Client liaison and business development skills.
- Project management experience, effective communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with technical software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoSlope, HEC-RAS, etc.).
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and lead teams, with a focus on safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
- Willingness to work on diverse projects and travel as needed.
