Blue Moon Metals is seeking a Lead Geology Consultant at Apex Mine in St. George, Utah.

You will lead the underground Mine Geology function, ensuring grade control, data collection, production reconciliation, and technical support for safe, efficient operations. You will collaborate with Mine Planning, Operations, Engineering, Survey, Resource Geology, Exploration, and Project Development teams to optimize resource extraction and advance the company’s geological understanding and growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive geological experience, preferably within underground mining environments.
  • Experience in mine geology, grade control, geological modelling, production reconciliation, and resource development.
  • Experience leading and developing geological teams in an operating mine environment.
  • Strong understanding of applicable mining regulations, health and safety requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States now or in the future without the requirement for employer sponsorship.

Position Summary

The Lead Geology Consultant provides senior geological expertise across mine operations, resource development, technical studies, special projects, and due diligence activities. The role has primary responsibility for leading the underground Mine Geology function, ensuring effective grade control, geological data collection, production reconciliation, and technical support to safe and efficient mine operations.

The Lead Geology Consultant works closely with Mine Planning, Operations, Engineering, Survey, Resource Geology, Exploration, and Project Development teams to optimize resource extraction, support production objectives, and advance the Company's geological understanding and resource base.

This position also provides technical support to theSpecial Projects team on resource growth initiatives, geological modelling, technical evaluations, drilling programs, project development, and other strategic initiatives as required.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, plan, coordinate, and oversee the underground Mine Geology function to safely achieve production and business objectives.

Provide geological expertise to mine planning, production, engineering, exploration, and project development activities.

Monitor mining activities and grade control to optimize ore extraction, minimize dilution and ore loss, and support production targets.

Oversee underground geological mapping, structural interpretation, face sampling, chip/channel sampling, and geological data collection.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve grade control, geological mapping, sampling, and QA/QC programs.

Analyze production geology data and complete monthly production reconciliations, identifying variances and opportunities for improvement.

Prepare technical reports, geological summaries, and recommendations for management and operational teams.

Support the Corporate Resource Geologist in preparing, maintaining, and updating geological and resource models.

Contribute to wireframing, grade control modelling, geological interpretation, resource estimation, and mine depletion tracking.

Ensure geological information generated from mining activities is accurately incorporated into geological models and resource databases.

Provide geological input into resource growth initiatives, technical studies, project development, and due diligence activities.

Review and interpret geological data to identify opportunities to improve resource confidence, mine planning, and resource extraction.

Drilling & Exploration Programs

Plan, coordinate, and supervise underground and surface diamond drilling programs.

Manage drilling contractors to ensure safe and efficient execution, adherence to scope and schedule, data quality, and budget requirements.

Coordinate geological logging, sampling, QA/QC, database management, and interpretation associated with drilling programs.

Review drilling results and provide geological interpretation and recommendations to support resource development and mine planning.

Track drilling expenditures and provide input into annual geological drilling budgets and forecasts.

Manage, mentor, and develop the geology team, promoting technical excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Establish clear priorities, work plans, and performance expectations for geological activities.

Foster a strong safety culture and ensure geological personnel and contractors work in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Provide coaching and technical guidance to geologists, geological technicians, and other geology personnel as required.

Special Projects & Corporate Support

Support the Special Projects team by providing geological expertise for project development, technical evaluations, resource growth initiatives, and due diligence activities.

Provide technical geological input to studies, business cases, project evaluations, and strategic initiatives.

Collaborate with corporate and site-based geology teams to ensure consistency in geological interpretation, data standards, modelling, and reporting.

Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual operational and technical reporting.

Provide geological expertise for other corporate or operational initiatives as required.

Budget, Data & Reporting

Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting for geological programs.

Monitor geological expenditures and support effective cost control.

Maintain oversight of geological drilling contractors, including scope, performance, safety, schedules, and costs.

Ensure geological databases, sampling records, geological logs, QA/QC information, and supporting documentation are accurate, current, and maintained in accordance with company standards.

Ensure geological information is appropriately documented and readily available to support operational and technical decision-making.

Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture across all geological activities.

Ensure geological programs and activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and company requirements.

Identify and address geological and operational risks associated with mining activities.

Ensure contractors and geological personnel comply with required safety standards and procedures.

Identify and implement opportunities to improve geological processes, systems, workflows, and data quality.

Evaluate new geological technologies, tools, and methodologies that may improve operational performance and resource understanding.

Promote the sharing of geological knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices across the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline is required; postgraduate qualifications are considered an asset.

Professional designation or eligibility for registration with the applicable professional geological organization.

10+ years of progressive geological experience, preferably within underground mining environments.

Significant experience in mine geology, grade control, geological modelling, production reconciliation, and resource development.

Experience leading and developing geological teams in an operating mine environment.

Strong experience with underground geological mapping, structural interpretation, sampling, QA/QC, and diamond drilling programs.

Experience working collaboratively with Mine Planning, Engineering, Survey, Operations, Exploration, and Resource Geology teams.

Experience with geological modelling and mining software packages.

Experience managing contractors, budgets, schedules, and technical programs.

Experience supporting technical studies, project development, due diligence, or special projects is highly desirable.

Strong understanding of applicable mining regulations, health and safety requirements, and industry best practices.
