The Software Engineer/Developer position is located within the ITdepartment and will report to the Assistant Director of IT. Thisposition is for a lead web application developer with a solidsoftware development background, demonstrated ability to integrateapplications through web APIs, and a passion for leveragingcutting-edge technology to address user needs. The individual willfocus on development efforts in the WIDA Secure Portal, which actsas the hub for access to WIDA online product offerings, as well asother custom software development and solutions integration toplatforms like Canvas LMS and Salesforce to support WIDAoperations.

Remote work is an option for this position on a voluntary basis;however, it is important to note that this role is headquartered inMadison, WI, and the tasks of the position require occasionalwork-related travel. If working remotely out-of-state, travel backto UW-Madison would not be reimbursable, and other business travelwill require cost comparisons between your home and Madison,WI.

WIDA operates in a Windows-based environment and a Dell PC laptopwill be issued for use in this role.Software and virtualconnection tools that are critical to our work dictate that WIDAstaff work on a PC.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepares program documentation and training requirements
  • Develops or modifies technical specifications formoderately-complex projects using disciplined software developmentpractices

Minimum: $90,000.00

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and development of fullstack applications utilizing Microsoft .NET and SQL Serverbackend.

  • 2+ years of experience developing front-end applications usingAngular

  • Proficiency with C#.NET, ASP.Net Core, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS,Javascript, Microsoft Entity Framework, relational database designand SQL queries.

  • Strong understanding of software development best practicesincluding secure coding practices, encryption technologies, sourcecode control with Git, common design patterns, code refactoring andre-use.

  • Knowledge of optimizing applications for performance,reliability and maintainability.

  • Experience leading code reviews, enforcing coding standards,and contributing to automated testing including load tests.

  • Collaborative approach to problem solving. Excellentcommunication, customer service, teamwork and issue resolutionskills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with single-sign-on solutions such asOpenIDConnect

  • Experience with Salesforce APEX development andintegrations

  • Familiarity with AI coding agents like ClaudeCode, Codex,GitHub Copilot

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required in field of Computer Science,Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a relatedfield
