Description

Overview:
The Lead Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and overhauling fleet vehicles in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Ensure shop work is organized and assigned to the appropriate mechanic personnel at the Market Center location. Focus on quality control and preventative maintenance. Typically, a Lead Mechanic works in a market center/shop with one or two additional mechanics.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Maintain fleet vehicles with emphasis on Preventative Maintenance programs to meet 100% compliance with standards.
• Assist with scheduling and assigning work to mechanic or associate mechanic personnel.
• Assess and recommend training needs for the fleet mechanic staff to Regional or Group Manager.
• Utilize the AVMS fleet management system for shop operations and tracking.
• Manage costs through purchasing, inventory management, and safety training.
• Maintain weekly cost data and report financial status to the Regional or Group Fleet Manager.
• Uphold shop standards, cleanliness, and OSHA compliance.
• Regularly inspect vehicles to ensure they meet VESTIS and DOT standards.
• Drive and reinforce quality standards and workplace conduct policies.
• Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle maintenance, and state vehicle laws.
• Proficiency in preventive maintenance systems, parts procurement, and inventory control.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Develop and maintain a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Schedule flexibility including day, evening, and weekend shifts.

Working Environment/Safety Requirements:

Position is in a vehicle repair environment with exposure to varying temperatures.

Experience:

Six+ years in fleet vehicle repairs, including maintenance, wiring, engine overhaul, and preventive scheduling; military maintenance experience is a plus.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED; VO-Tech graduate; Associate’s in Automotive Technology or equivalent preferred.

License/Certifications:

Valid driver’s license required.
