Job summary

San Juan County Fire & Rescue seeks an experienced firefighter leadership candidate to supervise and perform advanced firefighting duties, EMS response, and incident command. The role focuses on protecting life and property across county operations and may involve two-week deployments during wildland fire seasons.

You will oversee equipment readiness, conduct inspections, and coordinate with vendors while staying current with fire protection trends and standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with four years of active firefighting and EMS experience.
  • NFPA Firefighter I & II (IFSAC/Pro-board or equivalent).
  • Current EMT-Basic or higher certification.
  • NWCG S-130, S-190, L-180, S-131, S-290 certifications.
  • New Mexico Class E driver’s license or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide managerial, administrative, and advanced firefighting duties to protect life and property.
  • Serve as incident commander on scene in the absence of higher-ranking officers.
  • Supervise firefighting personnel and coordinate water, rescue, and suppression operations.
  • Drive heavy fire apparatus and manage deployment of suppression materials.
  • Conduct fire inspections, investigations, and prepare reports for prevention activities.
