Job summary

NMSU in Las Cruces seeks a Fire Protection Shift Captain to lead and supervise fire and EMS crews during shifts. You will coordinate incident command operations, direct firefighting and rescue actions, and ensure readiness of equipment and personnel.

The role requires an Associate’s Degree with several years of relevant experience, plus certifications such as Fire Officer I/II and EMT-Intermediate or higher. A non-exempt, 24-hour shift environment applies.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree plus 4 years of relevant experience with at least 1 year in a company officer role.
• Preferred certifications include Fire Officer I and II (IFSAC or equivalent).
• NM EMT-Intermediate or higher license; IS 100/200/300/700/800 certs are desired.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a shift commander and may supervise multiple fire/EMS companies and personnel.
• Responds to fire, rescue, medical, hazmat, and other emergencies to protect life and property.
• Directs and coordinates firefighting, rescue, EMS, and incident command operations during responses.
• Supervises company officers and personnel; assigns resources and ensures effective deployment.
• Oversees daily shift operations and maintains readiness of apparatus, equipment, and grounds.
