Job summary

Blue Ops designs, builds, and fields autonomous unmanned surface vessels (USVs) for defense and national security customers. This hands-on Field Test Engineer/Engineering Technician Lead role plans, instruments, and reports on at-sea and shoreside tests while directing technicians in Florida.

You will author test plans, perform data reduction, and troubleshoot intermittent faults, ensuring test events occur on schedule with instrumented vessels and complete data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical/electrical/ocean/systems/aerospace technical discipline or closely related field.
• Five+ years in field service, field testing, systems integration, or technical operations of complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience diagnosing hardware, software, network, sensor, power, wiring, and system-integration failures.
• Experience planning and executing formal test, commissioning, or acceptance events with procedures and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineering technicians across vessel build, integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair at multiple sites in Florida.
• Provide technical direction and set priorities, methods, and standards for field work.
• Own daily work plan for technician team; assign tasks, sequence work, verify quality, and manage risks.
• Develop and approve test procedures, acceptance criteria, and corrective actions.
• Direct installation, integration, and checkout of vessel systems ( propulsion, steering, autopilot, power, networks, radar, AIS, EO/IR, compute).
• Deliver hands-on training and build knowledge bases for long-term reliability.
