Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Lead Field Technician for its Utah operations to perform diverse field tasks, mentor teammates, and lead field activities with minimal supervision. The role prioritizes network restoration, equipment installation, and asset management in a high-availability telecommunications environment.

Strong leadership, extensive telecom knowledge, and the ability to coach others are essential. On-site work, 24x7 on-call, and valid driving credentials are required as part of this demanding

Qualifications

• 7+ years Technician experience in a telecommunications/data center environment.
• Master knowledge of standard telecommunication practices and technologies including Transmission (DSO, POTS, DDS, FT1, DS1, E1, DS3, SONET/SDH), Switching (SS7, Trunking, Signaling) and TCP/IP (Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, Networking Protocols, Router Installation Configuration).
• Strong technical and mechanical background with experience of the latest generation transport gear and critical infrastructure in telecommunications facilities.
• Must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting and organization skills.
• Must have PCN skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, removes/replaces defective equipment and drives restoration activities across multiple teams.
• Performs installation/change/decommission and testing of transport, Ethernet, SONET and IP network layers for all bandwidths; tests customer equipment (CPE).
• AC Power and DC power installations including tertiary systems.
• Locates, marks and protects underground outside plant facilities; trains and assists others as needed.
• Asset management oversight and replenishment; coordinates shipping/receiving and maintains tools and equipment.
• On-call 24x7 on a rotation basis; overtime may be required.

The Role

We have an immediate opening for Lead Field Technician. The Lead Field Technicians is required to perform a variety of different functions based on the need of the geographic area. Without direct supervision and utilizing established guidelines, procedures, and/or policies the Lead Field Tech may be responsible to perform all functions required for a Field Tech III. Mentors and provides SME support to team. Reviews the daily workload and will redistribute accordingly to ensure the team operates efficiently and productively. Ability to coach others to achieve successful results. Acts as a team leader, supports various operations initiatives at Division and organization level, may be requested to contribute to process and policy development. Expert knowledge of a specialty in business field and strong business acumen. Applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts and leads team members.

The Main Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, removes/replaces defective equipment, and drive the restoration activities across multiple teams to isolate and ultimately restore network. Proactively identify potential problem areas in order to ensure integrity of the network and company. May need to perform work on outside plant network including but not limited to fiber quality testing and analysis of results. Assist other personnel to complete these activities when needed.
• Performs the installation/change/decommission and testing of the transport, Ethernet, SONET and IP network layers for all available bandwidths offered. Will be required to install and test network and customer equipment (CPE) including installation and delivery of all end user services. Assist other personnel to complete these activities when needed. May perform work on outside plant network including but not limited to fiber quality testing and results analysis.
• AC Power (on limited basis).
• DC power installs including tertiary and BDCBB.
• Utilizes industry standard software and hardware to accurately locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities without error. Trains and assists other personnel to complete these activities when needed.
• Large Netbuild management (PM Duties).
• Vendor management.
• Responsible for oversight of the asset management processes and replenishment of on-site/truck materials while maintaining budget compliance. Ensures shipping and receiving of company and customer materials is coordinated and timely. Maintains tools, test sets, and all network equipment. Trains and assists other personnel to complete these activities when needed.
• Performs level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment including HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants. Assist other personnel to complete these activities when needed.

What We Look For in a Candidate

• 7+ years Technician experience in a telecommunications/data center environment and is a technical experience and has knowledge of standard telecommunications practices.
• Master knowledge of standard telecommunication practices and technologies including Transmission (DSO, POTS, DDS, FT1, DS1, E1, DS3, SONET/SDH), Switching (SS7, Trunking, Signaling) and TCP/IP (Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, Networking Protocols, Router Installation Configuration).
• Strong technical and mechanical background with experience of the latest generation transport gear, critical infrastructure (HVAC systems, high voltage electrical systems, DC Power Plants, etc.) found in telecommunications facilities as well as knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way an As-Builts.
• Must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting and organization skills.
• Must have PCN skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
• Must possess the ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
• On-call 24x7 on a rotation basis on standby, call out, dispatch and overtime are required as dictated by the business.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Physical Requirements:

• Sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift 75 lbs., works in all weather conditions

Education:

• Associates degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.7-9 years related experience in specific area or equivalent. May require technical certification.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$73,746 - $98,430 in these states: UT
