Field Service Technician I, Lead

Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Department: Field Service

Site: Walmart in Buckeye, AZ

Position Summary

The Field Service Technician will support our fuel cell products installed in electric lift trucks, including performing preventative maintenance and resolving breakdowns. Responsibilities include servicing fuel cells at a specific location, reporting breakdown events, parts ordering, and maintaining fuel cells. This role involves significant interaction with customer personnel and lift truck operators, requiring excellent technical, communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain and service fuel cells at customer sites.
  2. Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to ensure fleet performance.
  3. Execute specialized service procedures, including retrofits and upgrades.
  4. Provide emergency support to customers as needed.
  5. Procure tools, equipment, and parts for support.
  6. Troubleshoot and maintain high-pressure hydrogen storage, delivery, and fueling systems.
  7. Communicate with customer personnel and hydrogen suppliers regarding support.
  8. Provide feedback to regional service reps on fuel cell performance and maintenance issues.
  9. Complete administrative duties, including incident reports, service logs, and inventory documentation.
  10. Enforce safety procedures in the field and at customer sites.
  11. Travel as required, driving safely and adhering to traffic laws.
  12. Represent Plug Power professionally at all times.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent with technical electrical coursework.
  • At least 3 years of experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Formal training may substitute for experience.
  • Valid driver license with a clean record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Knowledge of lift truck operation preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and independent work skills.
  • Own standard tools; specific fuel cell tools provided by Plug Power.
Step 1 Requirements
Technical
  • Complete onboarding and site training.
  • Create and close work orders, order parts.
  • Use email, alerts, service portal, and other systems effectively.
  • Demonstrate use of multimeter and alarm clearing for H2 systems.
  • Follow standard procedures and perform H2 pad and dispenser inspections.
Non-Technical
  • Willingness to learn and accept coaching.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Adherence to safety standards and procedures.
Step 2 Requirements
Technical
  • Learn to check grounds, replace stacks, and handle batteries and parts.
  • Participate in technical training programs.
  • Demonstrate ability to replace wearable components, reset gas compressors, and lock cascade valves.
Non-Technical
  • Follow through on tasks, contribute during low volume periods, and practice 5S standards.
  • Communicate effectively with management and respond to off-shift needs.
Lead Requirements
Technical
  • Ensure site truck availability (target 99% or higher).
  • Maintain site evaluation scores of average or excellent.
  • Manage hydrogen system maintenance, including pressure management, preventative schedules, audits, and inspections.
  • Complete daily pad inspections and work orders for deficiencies.
  • Ensure monthly efficiency audits.
Customer & Internal Communication
  • Maintain professional communication with customers and internal teams.
  • Proactively escalate issues and support regular meetings and reporting.
  • Mentor technicians and promote professional interactions.

Pay Rate: $24.00 - $25.00
