Job summary

Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking a field service technician in Visalia, CA to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and start up high-voltage systems up to 500kV. You will perform transformer and relay tests, cable tests, and on-site troubleshooting in a safety‑driven, team environment.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 5+ years of relevant experience, and a valid driver’s license. A NET A certification is preferred; willingness to travel locally and overnight is expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and start-up electrical systems up to 500kV.
• Perform relay calibration and power metering tasks.
• Test instrument transformers and power transformers (Doble, TTR, insulation).
• Test electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
• Perform cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and switchgear; support on-call emergencies.
• Follow electrical safety procedures and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (to 500kV) electrical systems, and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.

• Instrument transformer tests
• Power transformer testing - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid state relays
• Cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot
• Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting
• Low, Medium and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must have a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
• Ability to travel locally and overnight
• Ability to work flexible hours, overtime and weekends as required, willingness to be on call
• Work safely alone and as part of a team
• Closely adhere to all electrical safety procedures
• Effectively contributes to a strong team environment through assisting teammates in accomplishing mutual goals

Qualifications and Competencies:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power, or similar experience/training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee) preferred
• Must have at least 5 or more years of relevant experience
• NETA Certification (III or IV) highly preferred or equivalent skills/experience to become NETA Certified
• Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training
• Must have at least 3 years of experience operating a vehicle with a valid, unrestricted driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 75 lbs. in weight
• Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam
• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to perform manual labor for up to 12 or more hours per day
• Acute hearing and strong field of vision
• Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
