Job summary

Roche is seeking a Lead Field Engineer Specialist to serve as a critical technical resource for our team and customers in California/Nevada. This self-supervised role uses expert problem-solving to resolve complex issues and improve field efficiency.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead training, guide escalations, and provide strategic direction to the local team, while remaining willing to travel up to 60%—with daily travel across assigned regions.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent military training required.
• 8+ years with repair/maintenance of complex hardware/software or related field with a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree path as specified.
• Prior experience coaching/mentoring junior staff and leading teams.
• Demonstrated leadership in overseeing team activities and escalations.

Responsibilities

• Act as go-to SME for product installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Lead training and mentorship plans for new hires and junior engineers.
• Use independent judgment to analyze regional needs and proactively resolve complex issues.
• Lead escalations and guide local team through critical technical challenges.
• Provide strategic leadership and direction, elevating only the most complex issues to senior leadership.

The Opportunity:

Are you an expert in technical problem-solving with a passion for mentoring? We're looking for a Lead Field Engineer Specialist to be a critical resource for our team and customers in California/Nevada. This is a self-supervised role where you'll use your expert-level technical skills to resolve complex issues and improve efficiency.

• Act as the go-to subject matter expert for our products, providing high-level support for installation, maintenance, and repair
• Lead the development of training and mentorship plans for new hires and junior engineers
• Use your independent judgment to analyze regional and customer needs , proactively solving complex problems before, during, and after the installation process
• Serve as a leader in managing escalations and guiding the local team through critical technical issues to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
• Provide strategic leadership and direction to your team, referring only the most complex issues to senior leadership

Who You Are:

• An associate's degree in Electronics, Information Technology, Medical Technology or related field or equivalent military training is required
• 8+ years of progressive experience repairing or servicing complex mechanical/system hardware and software, or networking/wireless networking OR a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or related field plus 4+ years/Master's degree in Management, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or related field plus 2+ years of progressive experience repairing or servicing complex mechanical/system hardware and software, or networking/wireless networking
• Prior experience in coaching/mentoring junior level staff
• Prior leadership or lead worker experience and proven success in overseeing and guiding a work team's functional activities

Preferred Requirements:

• Understanding of Histology workflow and processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem analysis, and decision-making skills
• Effective planning, organizational, and time management skills
• Successfully completes training and certification as defined by RD Services Leadership and policy
• Advanced knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical systems, and information technology, with the ability to communicate knowledge to lower-level staff
• Previous exposure to College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspections and familiarity with the processes.
• HT,HTL Certification
• A+, Security +, CCNA, or similar certifications

This is a field-based role that requires daily travel and up to 60% overnight travel. This includes overnight travel throughout the week; some holidays and weekends may be required. Our ideal candidate to reside in either Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky or surrounding areas within 100 miles of either of the states listed.

The expected salary range for this position, based on the primary location of Virginia is $78,100 - $145,000 USD annually. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
