Job summary

Wells in Hillsboro, TX is seeking a Metal Shop Team Lead to oversee daily fabrication, guide a skilled team, and ensure production assemblies meet safety, quality, and PCI standards. This role blends hands‑on welding with leadership to drive performance and workmanship on the shop floor.

Ideal candidates have strong welding expertise, the ability to read blueprints, operate shop equipment, and reinforce safety practices while mentoring teammates and maintaining PCI compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Welding certification preferred.
• Strong teamwork skills with the ability to meet production deadlines.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints and steel orders in English.
• Openness to change and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ability to obtain or maintain forklift certification (training provided).
• Willingness to learn and operate overhead crane systems (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Lead and support team members in the fabrication of production assemblies.
• Operate shop equipment including forklifts, welders, shears, punches, drill presses, and band saws.
• Set up and construct custom jigs to support fabrication processes.
• Perform welding that meets company standards and PCI certification requirements.
• Interpret basic blueprints to ensure accurate production.
• Utilize gas/acetylene torches safely and effectively.
• Reinforce compliance with company safety policies and safe work practices.
