FedWriters, Inc. seeks a Lead Executive Transition Coach & Instructor to support the Army Strategic Education Program (ASEP). The role delivers a week-long transition course for retiring U.S.

Army General Officers and spouses, including one-on-one coaching on resumes, networks, and career plans, to prepare them for senior civilian leadership roles. The position is part-time, on-site in Arlington, VA with some virtual delivery, and includes ongoing curriculum enhancement and follow-on coaching.

Qualifications

• Retired U.S. Army General Officer required (GO level) within last 15 years.
• 10+ years active-duty Army service at O-4+ rank within last 20 years.
• Master’s or higher in business, organizational psychology, HR, counseling or related field.
• PHR, SPHR or related certification.
• 3+ years as executive transition counselor or coach.
• 3+ years working with senior executives in outplacement or career services.
• 3+ years as a senior executive in public/private sector or government.

Responsibilities

• Lead the ASEP-Transition course: 5-day program for up to 18 General Officers and spouses (in-person).
• Present 5–10 year civilian job market perspectives and fit.
• Guide individual transition plans, assessments, and translating military leadership to civilian contexts.
• Facilitate resume, LinkedIn/personal branding, networking, mock interviews, and negotiation exercises.
• Provide one-on-one coaching and up to 90 days follow-on coaching after graduation.

Overview

Join our team as a Lead Executive Transition Coach & Instructor and support U.S. Army University’s Army Strategic Education Program (ASEP) by leading a week-long career transition course for retiring U.S. Army General Officers and their spouses. You will design and deliver executive-level instruction, coach generals one-on-one on their transition plans, resumes, and networks, ensure every participant leaves ready to compete for senior civilian leadership roles.

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site/Hybrid: This part-time position is on-site during scheduled course weeks, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET, at a conference facility in Arlington, VA (Washington, DC area). The role supports about five week-long courses per year, roughly three in person and two delivered virtually. It also includes a one-day transition module each February, up to eight half-day executive sessions per year (virtual or at locations within the continental U.S.), and short follow-on coaching sessions by phone or in person.

Responsibilities

• Lead the ASEP-Transition (ASEP-T) course: a 5-day executive transition course for up to 18 General Officers in person (up to 22 online) and their spouses, using experiential, discussion-driven executive education instead of lectures.
• Present a 5-to-10-year view of the executive job market and help each general decide where they best fit as a civilian leader.
• Guide participants through individual transition plans, interest and aptitude assessments, and translating military leadership into civilian terms.
• Run hands-on exercises in resume building, LinkedIn and personal branding, mock interviews, networking, and offer negotiation.
• Hold one-on-one counseling sessions during the course, including in-depth resume critiques and networking-plan reviews, and provide follow-on coaching for up to 90 days after each graduate retires.
• Deliver tailored half-day transition sessions for retiring four-star generals (in person or virtual) and an annual Introductory Transition Module for up to 200 attendees of the Army’s Senior Leader Development Seminar and their spouses.
• Continuously improve the curriculum through after-action reviews, participant feedback, and updates to VOW Act and Transition Assistance Program requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• Retired U.S. Army General Officer who completed honorable service at the GO level within the last 15 years.
• 10+ years of honorable active-duty U.S. Army service at the rank of O-4 or above, completed within the last 20 years.
• Master’s degree or higher in business administration, human performance measurement & evaluation, organizational psychology, human resources, counseling, management, or a related field.
• Current PHR or SPHR certification, or another related professional certification.
• 3+ years as an executive transition counselor, executive career services officer, or executive career coach.
• 3+ years working directly with, and counseling on outplacement, both U.S. Army General Officers and senior corporate executives.
• 3+ years as a senior executive in a public or private corporation, or in a senior executive role in government.
• Within the last 3 years, developed transition plans, development plans, and executive curricula or training plans for general officers.
• Within the last 12 months, delivered executive transition curriculum in a virtual/online format.
• Able to pass a government installation-access background check.

Desired:

• PhD in a related field.
• Teaching citations or awards, service awards, or academic promotions or faculty appointments.
