Job summary

Hudbay is seeking a Principal Environmental Advisor in Yerington, Nevada, to lead permitting and environmental programs for the Mason Project. This role reports to the SVP USBU and requires directing baseline monitoring, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration with operations and engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Mining, or a closely relevant scientific discipline.
  • 7–10 years of progressive environmental permitting, site environmental management, or environmental consulting experience within the mining industry in Nevada.
  • Experience with state and federal permitting of exploration and mining projects.
  • Competency in waste management, groundwater monitoring/modeling, and geochemical processes related to mining sites.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Directly work on, or direct the development of, documentation and designs as necessary for permitting activities, including permit amendments and compliance.
  • Define and manage the project's state and federal permitting matrix, including Water Pollution Control, Air Quality, Tailings Dam, Reclamation and other needed permits.
  • Lead and manage comprehensive environmental baseline programs, data analysis, and field monitoring networks.
  • Coordinate NEPA process planning, including Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Mine Plan of Operations.
  • Support other departments, such as operations and engineering, in review and update of specifications and construction packages.
  • Maintain inventories of historic properties and oversee cultural heritage processes and tribal consultations.
  • Review and provide comments on reports prepared by consultants, engineers, and Hudbay employees.
