Job summary

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking an Associate Counsel to enforce environmental violations and protect natural resources in the Capital District region. The role involves leadership, policy development, and providing expert legal counsel on permitting and enforcement matters.

Under the Regional Attorney, you will back up enforcement leadership, supervise staff, and handle hearings, FOIL responses, and complex permitting cases with high autonomy.

Qualifications

• Admittance to the NYS Bar is required.
• At least four years of post-bar legal experience in enforcement or related areas.

Responsibilities

• Lead enforcement matters and provide high-level legal counsel on permitting and enforcement.
• Represent DEC in administrative enforcement hearings and negotiate orders.
• Collaborate with the Office of the Attorney General and internal staff on complex issues.
