Job summary

The State of New York's Department of Environmental Conservation seeks an Associate Counsel for the Region 4 Schenectady Headquarters to enforce environmental violations and protect natural resources in the nine-county Capital District region.

Under the Regional Attorney, this supervisor-level role leads Senior Attorneys and staff, handles significant enforcement matters, and represents the agency in hearings and compliance actions.

Qualifications

• Admittance to the NYS Bar and 4 years of post-bar experience.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel.

Responsibilities

• Enforce environmental violations and protect the natural resources of the Capital District Region.
• Provide leadership to Senior Attorneys, Regional Enforcement Coordinator, and staff; lead significant enforcement matters.
• Represent DEC in administrative enforcement and permit hearings; draft and negotiate orders across multiple programs.
• Assist with hearings and FOIL training for regional staff.
