What we are looking for:

Escape Velocity is seeking a Lead Environment Concept Artist. The ideal candidate is a versatile concept artist with expertise in Environment Design, including natural landscapes, architecture, and environmental props. You should be capable of setting high standards for environment concept art quality and leading a team of talented artists. If you are passionate about mentoring, inspiring others, and delivering top-tier concept art, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

• Spearhead the design of new environments, natural landscapes, architecture, and environmental props, aligning with the core game vision set by the Art Director and Game Designers
• Develop best practices and workflows to help the team deliver high-quality work on schedule
• Lead the Environment Concept team, providing feedback and mentorship to ensure excellence and alignment with the project’s vision
• Create innovative concepts from early ideation to final execution, maintaining high standards of quality
• Produce thumbnails, sketches, rendered concepts, storyboards, and provide feedback through paint overs to support environment asset creation
• Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure high-quality work throughout the project

What you will bring:

• Extensive experience as an Environment Concept Artist, with a proven ability to design diverse subjects across genres, especially environments, landscapes, architecture, and props
• Expertise in various styles from stylized to semi-realism
• Strong graphic design skills, including color, proportions, composition, and storytelling
• A portfolio demonstrating high-quality work and the ability to elevate environment concept art
• Experience working as a lead on at least two AAA titles
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Experience with general line management duties
• Advocacy for artistic vision, ensuring alignment with Art Direction and Narrative through feedback and mentorship
• Bonus: Experience working with outsourcing partners and maintaining style consistency
