Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Relay Settings Engineer to design, calculate settings, and coordinate protective relays and relay control schemes for major utility substations. The role requires 7+ years in protection and control engineering with experience in ASPEN and CAPE. The position may sit in Boise, ID or several other U.S.

locations, offering diverse project exposure and travel as needed. The candidate should hold a BSEE with power systems focus (MS preferred) and PE registration or intent to

Responsibilities

• Design, specification, setting calculation, and coordination of protective relaying and relay control schemes.

• Ensure relay settings activities conform to company policies and client design standards.
• Present technical solutions to customers and respond to concerns in real time.
• Collaborate with Qualus groups to develop and implement technical solutions for engineering goals.

Job description

Power your future with Qualus as a Lead Relay Settings Engineer. In this role you will perform Protective Relay Design & Coordination: Design, specify, calculate settings, and coordinate protective relays and relay control schemes. Do you have 7+ years of relay settings experience in major utility substations? If yes, we want to hear from you!
This position may be based in Lake Mary, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Las Vegas, NV, Boise, ID; Raleigh, NC; or Fort Worth, TX.

Responsibilities

• Design, specification, setting calculation, and coordination of protective relaying and relay control schemes.
• Modeling, short circuit and overstressed breaker studies as well as the protective relaying recommendations for proposed generation interconnections to a client’s electrical system.
• Ensures all relay settings activities, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the company’s established policies and objectives, and with client design standards.
• Confidently and comfortably present technical solutions to key customers respond in real time to technical concerns and answer questions in a knowledgeable, articulate manner.
• Work collaboratively with the appropriate groups/ individuals in Qualus to develop and implement technical solutions that support the objectives of the Engineering Department.
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a power systems focus. An MS Degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the BS Engineering degree. International Engineering Degrees will be considered.
• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in protection and control engineering and relay settings.
• Experience with ASPEN and/or CAPE
• Professional Engineering registration or plan to become registered.
• Professional Engineering registration in the working state a plus.
• Must have strong analytical and computer skills.
• Must be able to identify necessary software to complete needed design work.
• Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
• Possess ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of support personnel.
• Strong commitment to customer service and care. Highly motivated "self-starter".
• Proven multitasking skills. Excellent document management and organizational skills.
• CYME familiarity, reclosers/sectionalizing schemes/fuse coordination preferred.
