Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Region Engineer to own reliability and provide geographically focused field support and technical guidance for outages, mis-operations, and equipment issues. You will serve as the single point of contact for outage support on substation, relay, line, and related equipment, interfacing with multiple teams to ensure reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET accredited program.
• PE license is required.
• Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
• Master's degree may substitute for a BS in Engineering.
• Strong written and oral communication, and project management.
• Experience in the utility industry and transmission systems knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Serves as point of contact for outages and equipment mis-operations.
• Leads or participates in Root Cause Investigations (RCA, ACA, BCA).
• Provides outage analysis, documentation, and follow-up.
• Provides input on project scope and collaborates with project teams on Transmission construction projects.
• Provides equipment troubleshooting and problem resolution (e.g., SVC, UG).
• Represents Duke Energy as technical expert for escalated outages and service quality issues.
• Coordinates with regional distribution engineering for contingency load planning and emergencies.
• Supports plant outages or specific plant projects as plant interface for PGO.
• Assists Asset Management in evaluating performance and reliability of transmission assets.
• Supports Project Manager on emergent/failed equipment projects (scope and estimates).
• Assists with scoring of reliability projects for long-range planning tools.
• Leads effort to determine whether to repair versus replace equipment.

Job Summary

The Region Engineer owns reliability and is responsible for providing geographically focused field support and technical guidance associated with outages, mis-operations, and equipment issues. The Region Engineer serves as the single point of contact for outage and mis-operation support associated with substation, relay, balance of station, and line equipment. This function provides the second level of technical support beyond the field crews and C&M Supervisors. The Region Engineer serves as the conduit between C&M, Veg Maintenance, Engineering, and Asset Management to provide expertise as deemed necessary. The Lead Region Engineer will provide additional leadership support for special investigations, assignments and initiatives.

Region Engineer support will interface with the following organizations, as a minimum: Craft Workforce (Maintenance and Construction);Work Management; Transmission Engineering (P&C, Substation, and Line;);ECC/DCC personnel; Asset Management (System Standards, Asset Strategy and Analytics, HRM and Fault Lab, and Data Management, );Transmission Planning; Project Management ;Generation Plant PTAC and System Engineers (Nuclear & RRE;)Account Managers for external customers (e.g., industrial, Electric Municipalities Corporations);Distribution.

Responsibilities

Primary roles and responsibilities of the Region Engineer include:

• Serves as point of contact for outages and equipment mis-operations
• Leads or participates in Root Cause Investigations (i.e., RCA, ACA, BCA)
• Provides outage analysis, documentation, and follow-up.
• Provides input on project scope and collaborates with project teams on Transmission construction projects.
• Provides equipment troubleshooting and problem resolution. (Includes unique equipment such as SVC, UG)
• Represent Duke Energy as technical expert for escalated customer outage and service quality issues. (e.g., power quality, reliability, and capacity).
• Serves as technical point of contact with regional distribution engineering for contingency load planning, emergencies, and outages
• Supports plant outages or specific plant projects by serving as plant interface for PGO
• Assists Asset Management in the evaluation of performance and reliability of Transmission assets in assigned region. Identifies and mitigates system issues and/or equipment issues that may impact system reliability and submits project work accordingly for assigned area.
• Supports Project Manager on emergent/failed equipment projects (scope and estimates)
• Assists with scoring of one-off reliability projects, to be placed in long range planning tool (Copperleaf), that are not covered under system programs or other projects.
• Lead effort to determine whether to repair versus replace equipment

Required/Basic Qualifications

• Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program and PE
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) required.
• Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
• A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
• Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Skilled principles of project management.
• Experience in the utility industry.
• Expert working knowledge of the transmission systems & associated safety policies, practices, and work procedures

Working Conditions

• Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
