Job summary

Optum is seeking a Senior Mobile Platform Architect to lead architecture across native iOS/Android and React Native, integrating AI/ML capabilities into scalable, secure mobile experiences.

The role requires strategic vision, hands-on engineering leadership, and mentorship to teams, with a focus on performance, security, and innovative AI deployment in mobile apps. Remote work is available within the U.S., with in-office four days weekly in specified locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in mobile platform architecture.
  • Proficiency with iOS: Xcode, SwiftUI, UIKit, Combine.
  • On-device AI/ML: Core ML, TensorFlow Lite, PyTorch Mobile, ONNX Runtime Mobile.
  • Training/Serving: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Optimization: Quantization, pruning, distillation, TensorRT.
  • Cloud/Backend: AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, Firebase, Azure AI, GraphQL, REST APIs.
  • Testing: iOS XCTest, Android Espresso, E2E with Appium.
  • Monitoring: Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog, New Relic, Mixpanel.
  • Security/Privacy: OAuth 2.0, JWT, Keychain/Keystore, secure storage, differential privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Platform Leadership: Define and drive the technical roadmap across native (iOS, Android) and cross-platform (React Native) solutions.
  • AI Integration: Implement and optimize AI/ML models for mobile apps using Core ML, TensorFlow Lite, PyTorch Mobile, and ONNX Runtime Mobile.
  • React Native Expertise: Architect hybrid apps combining React Native with native modules.
  • Performance: Leverage Fabric, TurboModules, and Hermes for performance.
  • CI/CD: Enable OTA updates via CodePush, Expo Updates, and ensure smooth CI/CD delivery.
  • Framework & Tooling: Establish SDKs, libraries, and shared components to unify native and RN ecosystems.
  • Security: Enforce enterprise security standards and optimize AI features for latency and memory usage.
  • Collaboration: Work with data scientists, backend engineers, and designers to deliver AI-driven experiences.
  • Leadership: Provide mentorship on AI/ML and mobile platform engineering.
  • Innovation: Experiment with generative AI, personalization engines, multimodal models, and deployment in mobile apps.
  • Responsible AI: Design AI solutions with responsible use and enterprise-grade governance.
  • Adoption: Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows and drive improvements.
  • Strategy: Monitor trends to inform solution design and innovation.

Development, and evolution of our next-generation mobile platform with integrated AI capabilities. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cross-platform frameworks (React Native), and AI/ML integration. This role requires strategic architectural vision, solid hands-on engineering skills, and the ability to guide teams in building scalable, performant, and secure mobile experiences powered by AI.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Architecture & Platform Leadership: Define and drive the technical roadmap across native (iOS, Android) and cross-platform (React Native) solutions
  • AI Integration: Implement and optimize AI/ML models for mobile apps using Core ML, TensorFlow Lite, PyTorch Mobile, and ONNX Runtime Mobile
  • React Native Expertise:
  • Architect hybrid apps combining React Native with native modules

  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement
  • Evaluate emerging trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation

Qualifications -
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Training/Serving: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers
  • Optimization: Quantization, pruning, distillation, TensorRT

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading large-scale React Native + native hybrid projects
  • Knowledge of generative AI (LLMs, diffusion models, multimodal) applied in mobile contexts
  • Contributions to open-source React Native or AI libraries
  • Familiarity with global-scale delivery (internationalization, accessibility, offline-first apps)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
