Job summary

Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc. in Deerfield, IL (hybrid with remote Mondays and Fridays) seeks a Lead Engineer Manager to join the Design-to-Value team.

You will identify new product opportunities from engineering, design, sourcing and manufacturing perspectives, driving margin improvements while shaping strategic product lines. You will lead cross-functional teams, build business cases, and deliver insights through teardowns, clean sheets and prototyping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience is required; experience in product development for consumer products is preferred.
• Experience with design thinking and/or business case development a plus
• Demonstrated experience leading projects with accountability for results on cross-functional teams
• Proven experience looking at cost breakdown of product components and true understanding of product development financials
• Demonstrated experience influencing and collaborating with team members
• Strong analytic skills with an emphasis on critical thinking, root cause analysis, and problem solving required
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for ideas
• Demonstrated tenacity; i.e. experience trying multiple approaches to get to the right answer

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop Design-to-Value opportunities.
• Lead technical analysis of market, competitive landscape and product development efforts to identify optimal areas to generate value creation and cost reductions.
• Drive profitability for current product offerings using broad business acumen and deep understanding of Fortune Brands Innovations processes.
• Lead engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, and design team members in collaboration with the DtV team to identify and procure relevant competitive sets and generate insights via ideation, teardowns, clean sheets, prototyping, etc.
• Manage and run product-related ideation, teardown, and design-for-manufacturing-and-assembly assessments with cross-functional teams.
• Identify relevant metrics and test own and competitor products against metrics.
• Support the Insights Leader by overseeing product readiness for testing and providing technical feasibility guidance for surveys.
• Provide direction and manage supplier involvement and all clean-sheet activity with next-gen sourcing.
• Support and execute analyses (portfolio, spend, etc.) to identify trends and opportunities.
• Develop and deliver communications to Steering Committee and other stakeholders on ideas, analyses, priorities, and impact.
• Support transfer of approved projects to project teams and provide follow-up support to ensure value is achieved.
